Codemasters racing games is always something special - that being fantastic racing feeling in Race Driver: GRID, brilliant handling in DiRT or ultimate realistic experience with the next year's F1 2010? The company takes pride at the technological edge, but we won't forget that these titles also run flawlessly on slower systems.
Just a couple of hours ago, Codemasters announced that they're delaying the release of Colin McRae DiRT 2 for the PC platform in order to deploy DirectX 11 technology. Originally scheduled for a debut in F1 2010 and Race Driver: GRID 2 games, EGO engine gets a DirectX 11 tune-up with a 2009 release.

This is not a "sticker-stomper" implementation. EGO engine is getting a complete overhaul, implementing all the key features of DirectX 11 such as graphics multi-threading [do NOT confuse with CPU multi-threading], hardware Tessellation and Shader Model 5.0.

The differences should be quite spectacular. Gamers with DirectX 11 hardware will see a significant change in game surfaces, such as water or glass reflection/refraction, crowd animation, ambient occlusion and shadows. Very important part of EGO engine, the motion blur/depth of field is also getting a complete overhaul and should result in spectacular feeling while playing the game.

In order to implement DirectX 11, Codemasters called AMD to help them out. Officially, AMD "provided Codemasters with access to our software engineering expertise in DirectX 11 technologies". To cut the bull from the press release, Codemasters now has ATI Evergreen hardware and a fleet of engineers ready to help them out during this conversion.

This is a first major DirectX 11 win for AMD, and we have no doubt that there are plenty more to come yet. The person that led the The Way It's Meant To Be Played team recently switched positions, and if there was any chance that AMD's gaming program steps on nVidia's currently superior gaming development support program, the time is now.

Bethesda Softworks has released the first details on the upcoming 'Mothership Zeta' expansion for Fallout 3, which will be the last of announced downloadable content for the game.
In 'Mothership Zeta', players must defy hostile alien abductors and fight their way off of the Mothership Zeta, a massive ship orbiting Earth miles above Washington, D.C. On top of that, it brings players into space in a desperate attempt to escape the Aliens.New weapons will be used to escape these extra terristreals such as the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator, and Drone Cannon. New outfits include the Gemini-Era Spacesuit and even Samurai Armor.

Looks like this is your lot…Bethesda’s website for Fallout 3 states that the latest piece of content is the “final DLC” for the game.

Not surprising, since the news of Fallout 4 in the works, coupled with the fact that Mothership Zeta will be the 5th piece of downloadable content available for Fallout 3, would suggest that perhaps Bethesda might call it quits on producing extra content for Fallout 3, and focus on, hopefully, a new project…

Elder Scrolls? I’m looking at you, Bethesda.

Mothership Zeta is due for release for the 360 and PC, on the 3rd of August, and, according to Bethesda, “a later date for Playstation 3″.

"We didn't buy the Fallout franchise to just do Fallout 3 and then stop," Peter says. "But let's get this one out of the door before we worry about the next one."
On downloadable content: "when I say exclusive I mean it is exclusive to just the Xbox 360 and PC. If you want to play the Fallout 3 downloadable content you will need to have an Xbox 360 or a PC."

So by exclusive, you mean "exclusive" and not "timed exclusive," right? Okay then. I'm glad we had this conversation. Anyone else think it's too early to be thinking about Fallout 4?

"Mothership Zeta," the fifth and final piece of downloadable content for Fallout 3, looked really promising. Being abducted by aliens sounded fantastic, and the thought of exploring another new, interesting locale was an intriguing one.
Bethesda had an iffy start with the first add-on, "Operation: Anchorage," but things only went up from there. Each of the DLC packs were better than the last, but what about "Mothership Zeta"? Does it continue this trend and end Fallout 3 on a high note? Or does it take a sharp turn for the worse?

You will just have to try it and see for yourself!!

From the rain of Friday morning’s session, Toyota’s Jarno Trulli emerged as the quickest runner, whilst after lunch Lewis Hamilton took his McLaren to the top of the timesheets.

Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal:

"As always at Spa, the weather played a prominent role in our preparations for the race - but the local micro-climate is one of the idiosyncrasies of the place, and the reason why it so often throws up an unusual result.

While enjoying an ideal spot in these green Ardennes, the track stretched in a hilly landscape but was also made of numerous straight portions, particularly suitable to achieve high speeds. Moreover, being close to Spa, already famous on the international scale for its hydrotherapy, and where some car races had been popular for a few years, this track seemed to have a lot of assets to be successful. Therefore, a race was already scheduled for the following year.

Something to help you make up your mind Jeffers!!

After completing all the benchmarks in the suite, I can only arrive to one conclusion, the Intel Core 2 quad-core QX9650 performs. To date it has produced the highest scores out of any processor I have used or reviewed. I like the fact that even overclocked and on air cooling, my CPU temperatures did not go above 49 degrees Celsius at 100% load and that’s even with ambient room temperatures of 78 to 80 Fahrenheit or 23 to 26 degrees Celsius!

The only drawback of this processor may be its price. It might not be affordable to everyone at this time, but along with the newest technology comes a higher price and depending on where your priorities are, it can be a wise investment... You may not have to upgrade for a couple of years.

Hmm Got you thinking eh!!! :)

Toyota’s Timo Glock suffered a minor cut to his left leg but escaped significant injury after crashing heavily during Saturday’s Q2 qualifying session for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.

Glock went wide as he exited Suzuka's final corner, ploughing through the gravel trap and burying the car in the tyre wall. With red flags out, medics were quickly in attendance and the German was extricated from the car. As he was stretchered into the waiting ambulance, he was seen waving and giving a thumbs-up to the crowds.

Complaining of back and leg pain, Glock was taken to the Suzuka circuit’s medical centre, before being helicoptered to the nearby Yokkaichi hospital for further precautionary checks, including a back x-ray. These confirmed no serious problems and Toyota have also said that data from Glock's car showed no sign of a technical problem.

Brawn GP’s Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, Force India’s Adrian Sutil, Renault’s Fernando Alonso and Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi will all drop five places on the grid for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

The first four drivers were penalised by Suzuka race stewards for failing to slow adequately when yellow flags were shown following Buemi's accident near the end of Saturday's Q2 qualifying session.

The accident littered the circuit with debris and Buemi was also reprimanded for impeding other drivers and driving back to the pits with a damaged car.

Sutil had qualified fourth, Barrichello fifth, Button seventh, Buemi 10th and Alonso 12th. The full provisional grid will be published by the FIA on Sunday morning.

“It’s inspiring to see such a positive response from the community,” said Richard Cregan, CEO of the Yas Marina Circuit. “Each volunteer is playing a significant role in representing their Emirate during this historic event. The enthusiasm I’ve seen so far from all the volunteers is incredibly refreshing and we thank them for this.”

Left4Dead2 has caused quite a problem for Valve as demand has caused issues with them delivering the download to UK gamers. The game has been getting rave reviews and our sister site GamingHeaven gave it a total score of 92 percent and it earned the coveted TeamWork Award.

The UK launch hasn't went as well as planned for Valve as some versions of the game have had to be blocked from unlocking until Friday - this has been caused by high demand.

If you preordered the game you should be able to play it over Steam immediately, however if you just decided to purchase it since the early hours of last night then you won't get playing it until Friday.

Demand for the game has lead us to release it worldwide, except in the UK where copies are still arriving, said Valve's Doug Lombardi. "We plan to have everyone in the UK playing by Friday morning. Those who pre-ordered the game via Steam in the UK before the worldwide launch have been given access to the game.

Things go south in Valve's uncharacteristically quick follow up to last year's cooperative multiplayer shooter Left 4 Dead, as the walking dead creep below the Mason-Dixon line—where four new Survivors, immune to zombie-ism—seek solace form the infected hordes.

Left 4 Dead 2 follows the bloody struggle of four random strangers as they fend off new "Special Infected" super-zombies en route from Savannah, Georgia to New Orleans, Louisiana. They do so over the course of five campaigns, armed with new melee weapons, a larger selection of guns and grenades, and new personalities that make them distinct from the original's fondly remembered quartet.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a bigger, more diverse, more comprehensive package than the original was, offering brand new game modes and a complete multiplayer campaign suite right out of the box. Is L4D2 too soon? Or is it everything Left 4 Dead fans were hoping for?

Formula One racing is a difficult beast to master, with team, car and driver all striving in unison to deliver the best possible performance. There’s no doubt that collectively the package is greater than the sum of its parts, but if we’re dealing in cliches, then it’s important to remember that winning is in the detail, and in F1 racing there is nothing more important than details.

The ultimate representation of this is the car itself. From nose to tail, the design of a car embodies a team’s pursuit of perfection. Any element, however small, can make or break a race, even a season, and within every car, every part has been honed (and honed some more) to ensure it won’t let the team down.

Easy to overlook, and often overshadowed by those much-talked-about tyres that surround them, wheels are an interesting case in point. An insignificant, homogenous chunk of metal that all teams run they are not. In fact, the rivalry between the sport’s wheel manufacturers is just as fierce as that between engine suppliers and the work that goes into a team’s wheels easily rivals that for any other component.

Britain is bracing itself for icy blasts as the freezing weather looks set to continue over the weekend.

The forecast came as the government stepped in to conserve road-gritting stocks due to dwindling salt supplies.

The Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, said local authorities had agreed to cut salt use by 25%.

The Conservatives have said that the government's move is "an admission of utter failure" and plans should have been made earlier.

As temperatures remained at sub-zero levels, at least 24 people are believed to have died since before Christmas in weather-related incidents.

The latest are two brothers who died in hospital in Leicester after falling through the ice at Watermead Country Park.

It may be 55 days before the season starts, but returning seven-time champion Michael Schumacher is already raring to go. Schumacher, who will drive for Mercedes this year after a three-season absence from the sport, kick started his on-track work early this week, completing a three-day GP2 test at the Spanish circuit of Jerez.

Although his time in the car was billed as a way to help the GP2 Series evaluate various new set-up solutions, the German, who is keen to reacclimatize himself to life in a single-seater cockpit before the official Formula One tests get underway next month, was more than happy to lend a hand. And after racking up 130 laps during his final day in the car, Schumacher seemed pleased with progress.

The performance of Ferrari during this week’s Valencia test may have prompted many to speculate that they are the team to beat, but team principal Stefano Domenicali is eager to downplay the Italian squad’s perceived dominance. And while he’s clearly pleased with their progress, he’s determined they stay level headed, as March’s Bahrain season opener draws closer.

Between them, Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso controlled the top of the timesheets throughout the three-day test at the Spanish track. They were the only men to break through the 1m 12s barrier, with local hero Alonso clocking a best time of 1m 11.470s and Massa a quickest run of 1m 11.722s. Domenicali, however, is hesitant to celebrate the F10’s domination just yet.

It’s no secret that Sebastian Vettel hates losing - especially when he knows he should have won. In Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix, his Red Bull started from pole and looked to be not just the quickest car, but also a very tyre-friendly one on an excellent race strategy. That was until technical gremlins intervened. Vettel can only hope it was a one-off and for the German, his season now starts in Melbourne…

Hamilton: DO I LOOK WORRIED!!!

Q: The stewards are still looking into the pit lane incident with Sebastian Vettel. Any worries on that one?
LH: Not really aware of. Not really sure what they are talking about.

Q: When yourself and Sebastian came out of the pits together. It got very close after the pit stop and the stewards are having a look.
LH: Are they.

Q: Everything okay as far as you are concerned?
LH: As far as I am concerned I think it was okay. I think the team waited for quite some time and they released me when they thought it was the right time but I got quite a lot of wheel spin, so I struggled to get out the actual box. As I came out I noticed Sebastian was there and he was pushing me a little bit to the right. We touched wheels but otherwise I think it was fair.

I mean the safety car for clearing debris off the circuit was just... I had my heart in my mouth when that happened as I just did not know what was going to happen. We had built up such a good gap and then, unfortunately, everyone else caught up, so it made it very tricky. At the end of the race when we put the inters on, the new set, I felt really good. The car felt great and I wasn’t pushing the tyres too much. I could see I was pulling a gap to Lewis and then it started racing again. I made a mistake at the hairpin and ran wide and from then on I just could not get any heat in the tyres and every bit of water I touched I aquaplaned, so I really had to back off. This victory is very special and really means a lot. It was a tricky race out there and again we called it right and it means a lot. It is not just about being quick, it is about reading the conditions and obviously coming across the line just one second in front of Lewis I think shows what a team effort this has been and what a great result for the whole team.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in their McLaren MP4-25s turned the world championship fight on its head in Montreal on Sunday afternoon, when they scored the team’s third one-two of the season after a tense race in which nobody was able to relax.

It began with second fastest qualifier Mark Webber being moved back five grid places after Red Bull replaced his gearbox, then a collision between Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi which split the field up and put some unfancied runners in places you wouldn’t have expected in the midfield.

Up front Hamilton grabbed the lead from Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, with Button slipping into fourth as Liuzzi and Massa fell down the order to begin sterling recovery drives after pit stops.

The Montreal weekend turned out to be something of a Hamilton-fest, with the McLaren driver translating an imperious pole position into a well-deserved win. Having taken his maiden F1 victory here back in 2007, Hamilton has a personal bond with the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - a bond that grew stronger on Sunday as the enthusiastic sell-out crowd cheered him home…

You can never be too confident. We sure have been in a good position, but there was Mark Webber ahead of me and I didn’t know what his plan was - whether he would have keep on pulling away or keep his gap, so I concentrated on looking after my tyres. It is so difficult to figure out how long you can make these tyres last. And then Fernando (Alonso) put a lot of pressure on me - in fact we had a really good battle - but towards the end of the race I was cruising. Suddenly all those guys had disappeared. It was such a sensational feeling when I crossed the finish line - something of a reminiscence of 2007.

While Kovalainen maintained the Red Bull had simply run into him, Webber questioned whether the Finn could have done more to avoid the clash, suggesting the Lotus driver braked for the corner 80m sooner than he himself had done on the previous lap.

“I understand that F1 isn’t a charity event; you have to fight for every position - but not when you’re five seconds off the pace and you have one of the quickest cars in the pack behind you. I mean, how long was Heikki going to stay ahead of me? Another 15 seconds? He must be asking himself whether it was worth it.”

Mark what the F£$%£ are you babling on about..... Twat!!!

So like all bad, annoying websites, I'm trying to get around your annoying music. If I jump on, click a link I want and close down Grageo quickly I can avoid the music! Unfortunately have had to remove Grageo as my homepage at work because the music isn't fitting!! Let me know when you get rid of it so I can come back to the fold!

How about if I change the fantastic, popular, modern, rock and pop music to something more fitting.

Maybe some Chopin or something!!!!

I look forward to your votes.... :)
